The first 20 years of the most beautiful coin in the world. The American Silver Eagles
I am working diligently completing my 'polishing up' of my sets, pictures, and discriptions of my collections. It will take a while. I know there are some pictures here that need to be cleaned up, and I will get to it ASAP, but enjoy as I have them for now. I also just aquired 42 more ASE's for my stash, and I just can't get enough. The last 42 are not grading coins, just believe in silver.

PS I have these coins in a beautiful [silver printed] wooden box, and in actuality, I have two boxes, and only need one. I had to get two boxes to complete the set.
So one is for sale. If you want to complete your set, then buy my box for a reasonable amount, and I will send it on to you.
If you are collecting the coins, and cannot afford a reasonable amount, give me an unreasonable amount, (at least postage) and I will sent it on to you

    The new website for NGC..
I like it so far. Was having a little bit of difficulty in the beginning, with loading etc, but seems it is flying low, and rising. (kinda like gold)Anyway, I seem to be getting the hang of it, and can offer no suggestions.
Good move so far. Have to inspect several areas yet.
    Thanks NGC

GONNA BE A LONG TIME TIL I ADD ANOTHER COIN
Well, they are all in the pot. About 14 of them were without slots, so I will have to get on my knees and beg Amy to get me some slots and new sets. I know they are backed up with requests, as mentioned before but I have a bunch of orphans that want to join the party.
Enjoy looking. I will clean up descriptions and pictures as time permits. (this is like painting the Golden Gate, never finnished.)
    Happy coining

Man, I'm getting a cramp from typing...
Photos are driving me to the nuthouse, but I keep finding the mistakes I am making,so getting easier and quicker at adding coins to the registry. With working, and fending off tropical storms, chores and a few etc's, I hope to have all the coins entered by Sunday evening... Very happy with NGC's effort to find all the info I need to know all there is to know about these coins, each has a pedigree and a wonderful history, from artwork to the path each coin has taken. It will be a forever thing bringing each coin's description up to date, but it is a fun project. I guess I am gonna have to break down and buy the "World Coin Book" - Pre 1900. gasp. Boy, can I ever be cheap. Well, back to it.
HAVE FUN INGOT WE TRUST. ( Joke )

Gold coins from Europe,Columbia,Austraila etc, IN GOLD WE TRUST
NGC coin list back.. not bad at all, two not genuine, ( are gold though ) low end one coin poorly cleaned, so got an "XF details" grade.., one low grade XF35 and 3 - XF40, and 5 XF45... 8 in the AU range, [not too bad], and 15 in high grade, better than would be expected for almost half of the coins to come back in the MS range. Lots more fun than stox...Can;t wait to add them to my registry...

Eye candy of the 3rd kind..
    Hello again:
Just back from the Orlando FUN exibit. This is a local club, not as big as the main show in January,or the one coming up in Boston in August but I had a lot of fun and learned a bit with my short available time there.
I met with PCGS people, very nice, but seems I can get precisely what I want with staying with NGC and it is less paperwork too. I accept into my orphanage, for now, only NGC and PCGS, although, I guess some of the other grading companies are coming along, and gaining respect. {any comments on the 'others' might be fun and useful.)
I was told by one of the seller/dealers who had a booth there that the big company, [in the middle wearing green shirts] have been known to walk in before the show opens in the morning, and buys out the entire show. (I wonder if that is possible) I suppose it is.
It was the same group that offered me bullion value for my beautiful 4 coin burnished, early release set, in a four coin holder. $50 gold is worth much more than that by itself. They had no problem offering bullion price for a collectors item of limited issue, and desireable also. I had other coins there too, one of my 1987 $10 Gold Eagles, MS70, and that too they offered bullion price. (At least it was not below spot where some folks buy gold at.) The fellow who was tending me made a mistake and offered me $2000 for a 2005 Silver Eagle MS70... He was adamant that that was fair, and I was making a call to my guy in Texas who I trust, and he said the coin was worth about $120, and being afraid I was "Shopping" it not knowing I was verifying if I should sell it or not, he checked with one of his bosses, and realized the coin was not what he thought. He deserved to have bought it at that price, but I did not hold him to it, and refused to sell him the coin although I had only about $90 in it. Do NOT need to do business with those folks.
They had a lot of folks tending their customers, I wonder if any got a fair shake.
I was able to sell a few of my graded with details, so those $2.5's and one $5 are out of my registry, along with two stunningly beautiful 1880 S Morgans. But I have several in the same grade, date and appearance, so I am paring them out as time goes by. I have decided, that with coins of large pops, to only hold one or two. I got for my Morgans, about what I had in them, and the money will go for a new addition if I can find an orphan which needs a new cot.
Met a gun dealer, and he is willing to take some of my guns in trade or buy them. I was thinking of getting out of those and putting the money in coins.
I have a sneaking suspicion that coin prices have softened somewhat here in our economy, and I am trying to get in some of them before theprices go back up. Is that what you out here are finding? I think I will post a separate journal discussing my findings in pricing.
I have also sold some ungraded, odd Mexican Peso gold coins, and those went for bullion prices, and I turned them into bulk silver eagles.
So, I have been fairly active recently after a few months of quiet non buying and I am really in that phase now, unless a real deal surfaces. I was close to buying some old golds but found that the asking price was somewhat high.
Right now, I am waiting for the 37 foreign gold coins to come back from NGC. They have been in the hopper now for about 3 weeks, [talked to them the other day } and they are a bit backed up, so we wait....

well, time to get ready for the boat ride, so HAVE FUN.

Am I a product of a good home, trusting or just plain stupid?
Have any of you folks been 'taken' by your trusted coin dealer? What did you do? What can someone do.I sure would like some feedback here. Some of my collection has been obained, I think, from con men who scammed me into thinking certain coins were worth much more than they were.
    Thanks:

I have run into a logjam. I want the others. APB on them.
I am attempting to get all of the 29 1987 G$10 MS 70's. There are 5 from PCGS and 24 from NGC, I have 15 of the NGC's and none of the PCGS'ers. So, if any of you kind folks see one, let me know if you would please.

Great collector coin up for sale, does not fit my group
I have for sale, the 1829 Quarter Eagle I had graded... Looking to sell or trade it. I am looking for some 1997 Platinum $100 Eagles PF70. Or anything over $15000. I would take also some 1997 Gold $50 Eagles PF70's. I would want at least an even trade.

Are "First Strikes" more desireable, and more valuable?
I was to understand that even though the "First Strike" [blue label] coins were not from the mints 'first strikes', but the first coins to be graded by the graders during the first month of issue. In addition, I understood, that the 'first few coins' could have clearer images than those struck with worn dies. I am sure the difference is minute, but so is differences between PF/MS 69's to '70's. ANY comment supporting or defacing this idea is more than welcome.

Smaller gold coins hidden away for a long time
    Hello again fellow collectors:
Well, I was so enthused by the first four coins I had graded as a test grade for the 40 coins I have been hiding for a long time.
Got such great results from the first 4, that I am sending in the rest. On the way yesterday, registered mail are 37 gold coins. Austria, Belgium, Canada, Columbia, France, Gr. Brit., Holland/Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Prussia, Switz., & Russia,.
I am really straining at my tether wondering how all these will turn out. I am looking at a coupla of old high graded, American coins, so all these 'visitors' to my collection are just staying a short while and looking for homes.
Adoption papers don't take too long. So if you keep tuned in here, in about 3 weeks, I should have them back and listed.
SO, bye for now, have to go out and get a 2nd job to pay for all this grading.

P.S. Whew, coins have arrived at NGC. We wait, and try to figure out how to not think ALL the time about the coins in process.
Well, off I go, looking at the want ads.
Wish me luck. (on the grading not the ads)

1817A France G20F And look what came up.
Had this hanging around for a while, decided to have it graded, and got a pleasant surprise. There was no slot for it, so NGC is looking at my request to add one. I am havin' too much fun looking at this one, Maybe you better take it. I have a small collection of odd gold coins from pre-1927 and many before 1900. Stay tuned, but these are all available. Now I have to figure out how to get in the chat room.

Enjoying the benifits of others knowledge and expertise
    Hello all:
Again I profess to be needing help regarding buying, selling, focusing on numismatics. When I acquire my coins I do not always buy just the ones I want for my "keeper collection" but occaisionally get some for trading or simply selling. If any of you have the time to look over my "stash" [as I call it] and have any advice on a direction I may should take, I am open to suggestions. I just went through a give and take with another member that turned out kind of negative, as I asked a bit much for a coin. Should I take offense at this negative response, learn from it, or what. I feel bad that the meeting was not more fruitful for both of us, but any suggestions with 'dealing' with other members so we keep it fun, please help.

Hello: want to sell ungraded Capped Head mintage 3403
Hello: Interested in selling 1829 (mintage 3403) $2.5 Quarter Eagle in likely AU-50 or 55 condition. Understand, I am a new collector going on only two years knowledge. I use a grading book and compared to other coins I own of various grades and determine this would grade out at AU50-55. I feel very strongly.
My friend who owns it seems to want to grade it, but I feel perhaps we should sell it as is. Will entertain any offers.
    Thank you
    Capt Brian
P.S. Coin went in for grading, just about fin'd...Stay tuned for results.
Some nice others I hope to be pleasantly suprised to hear back on. Had several graded, wish me luck

You have to see one of these huge coin
You have got to see one of these huge coin shows. the Orlando FUN show is I think, the biggest. It is really an education. Most folks are there for the reasons of their owns which which should cause you to move with caution with most transactions. I find that some folks there with the knowledge of the ages, and some just know how to sell. I would think that it is a better place for a person to sell, than for buying, unless you are savvy and really know your prices. There are 'ways' for you to be taken. Know which books have credence for your objective and don't guess. Other periodicals are printed by who knows who, and for what reason. Just because you see something printed in the sellers book he shows you, know your values without looking in his book or paper before you buy on the sellers information. That was just a word of caution. I am sure there are no crooks there but JUST in case.
    Happy hunting..

What am I? Please tell me, investor or collector.
I began "collecting" years ago for an investment stance. Figuing precious metals would increase in value over time. And so they have. Not [as advertised] actually keeping up with inflation. nice increase, but not what one would expect listening to gold and silver sellers.
I got together a nice stash 18 years ago, and have sold much of it off to come into graded coins all the while expecting to pawn them off to the first buyer who could pay me a profit from my entry level. WELL..... I have scoured my accounts, and emptied them into the treasure chest of dealers and now have my "collection" which was supposed to be 'investments', not aquiring new friends to take up residence in my "home".
So... What to do with these new 'friends'. I did not aquire them thru love, or adoration, BUT they will not go away. Is there such a thing as a good houseguest?
Are there any of you that got caught up in the maelstrom of 'collecting' when you told yourself, "This should be a great investment.". I really don't want this stuff, but I have had a wrestling match and "don't sell me" is winning. Oh what to do. Any advice?
    Thanks
