Durn coin shows, usually come home with more than I brought.
Yup, durn sellers are hotter than me for sure, came home with a pacel of new coins and added them to my registry. Don't have time to list them, but many duplicates. Take a look if u like modern graded coins. I sold off some WWII trinkets, and came away with some newer things. 14 gold pieces, MS70's and some other things added in. I sold a bunch of ungraded Morgans, I think about 110 of them for a little over silver price, and a few of my graded ones. Bought and sold some silver coins, just a lil bag of them, and made $50 helped pay for gas for the 450 mile round trip from the home 20 to New Port Richey and back. Fun too, it was a small neighborhood coin show put on by the Shriners and it is a great place to buy stuff. So, that is three coin shows so far this year, and as I travel from here to Alaska this summer, I intend to comb the states for goodies.
Well, g'nite to all, time for some shut-eye after all that typing in new coins. I am going to have the devil putting in pictures of them all.

    Now I'm moving into sets.
I have now added a few sets of gold all MS 70's I think I am going to shoot for some sort of set award. So I will add them in as soon as I can get them all in. Four sets of gold, the $50, $25, $10 and $5, of 2001, 2002, 2003, & 2008 to get me started. Some PCGS and some NGC. I am not sure which coin now is my favorite although my Ten Dollar Jamaica Proof 1974 is my favorite for playing Texas Hold 'em,as it is my favorite rum, 'Captain Morgan', although the Riccardo Banana rum is pushing for #1. In any case, I will add in as many coins as I can tonight. Heading for a coin show in New Port Richey, Florida tomorrow. (coin show Saturday) and will add in pictures as I can. Still have computer troubles so my lovely wife Helen took the picture of the 1846 Lib and emailed it to me and I was able to show it how to get to NGC registry. The rest of the pix will have to wait for me to fix my main 'puter.
Happy wxend to all, and I will add in pix ASAP. In the meantime, enjoy my new wagon in which we will head for Alaska in May.

Adding a collection to my collection A Pittman
I have been lured in again by a pedigreed coin. This one is of lower grade, but still a georgeous coin and I hope to get the picture added in soon. My other computer is down, and it is how I add pictures so give me time. I now have two $10 Libs and love 'em.
This one is the Pittman 1846 O $10 XF40 Enjoy

    New beast in the corral
Purchased a 2008 PF70 Buffalo. Now I have to find the other PF's of the buffalo series. I think this one is the rare one, so I decided to corral it before someone else got it in their sights. Will take and add picture when coin arrives.

Should I or should I not? Only my grader knows for sure.
I think I have discovered my real reason for messing with coins and paper money. It is the chase, the hunt, the quest for the holy grail as it were. Yes, I buy Ag and Au due to the investment fact I feel metals will rise in price enough to cover buying stocks and waiting for good news. Economically, I feel over the longer haul of 2 - 4 years, my bullion coins will surpass the best of the stocks and indices.
    BUT...
It is the fun, enjoyment, and satisfaction of discovering a gem in any mileau. Shows, garages, drawers, etc., can offer gleeful moments beyond description.
    BUT...
I also, in my retirement, find myself appreciating the time spent at the bench by the artist of these currencies. Also, to my detriment, have found an eye towards artwork, and if I don't stop looking I will find my retired hours with no rest.
Last week, I got a warning from the police to stop impersonating a retired person.
Well, to get to the point, I purchased, in a greedy moment a bag of silver along with a bunch of Morgans and Peace dollars from my jeweler friend, who takes in metals as payment, but calls me to unload the stash on as he does not want to fool with anything but money.
So, I went to get the Morgans, and he said, (nicely) "and you have to take the other coins too." Of course I said, "okay". He had 89 Quarters, (all silver of course, 1964 or earlier, five rolls of dimes, (have not even opened the rolls yet) and a bunch of halfs, some walking libs, some Kens and some Franks.
Now, I am going to a coin show in March and I figuredd maybe I sell these and some other silver items, and perhaps locate a great graded coin for my collection.
Going thru the coins, I find many which seem very [what I call, Bright White] and catching my attention, I grabbed the loop, magnifying glass and grading book. Well, to my pleasant suprise, many of these coins are in pristine condition, some with beautiful toning (original toning, not tarnish)and as I prepped these for the coin show, the more I looked at these individually, attempting to grade them, some look pretty good. I am afraid to say in the MS 65 or higher. Is it possible that these coins should be graded? I do not need to lose the silver value I have by spending money on grading and shipping. These coins are not for my collection, (says I) but what if they ARE higher grades. Any thoughts here?
I can take pictures and send to anyone, if you feel your grading capabilities are more than the average person. Let me know your feelings here folks.

    Betcha cannot eat just one!
This is like eating potato chips. I was shopping for coins and put in a watch or want list somewhere. I wanted a set of PF70 AGEs and in less than a week three responses came in. So today, I (while my wife was out shopping) bought three sets of AGEs Like in the title, one each, the 2001, 2002, 2003 AGE sets. $50, $25, $10 $5. I should get all three sets tomorrow and will post them and pictures ASAP. I am also getting 12 Krugs tomorrow. My tax man is selling them. Why? This guy is much smarter than I. Does he know something. He sure wants rid of them and I suppose I better buy them before he changes his mind. I am going to try to trade them for silver eagles.

Once in a rare while, you find one, a rareish or fun coin
While I do look hard for coins that are special or rarish, I was not looking for a quarter with a variation. I was simply bumbling along after purchasing a load of silver change, and as I go to coin shows and sometimes get a booth, I am always on the hunt for a rainbow of value so I can at least have a conversation with the entire spectrum of collectors. In January at the F.U.N. Show, I took with me a few wheat pennies. I don't collect them, but go through all coins that I come across in my daily life. I keep the wheat pennies on the side, and had 23 of them which I sold to a child for $0.25. I did not have two cents so I simply traded, and he was happy. Using the same idea for the silver coins, I was, for the first time, looking strongly at the quarters because of the 89 I bought, many were very shiny. Suspecting inmproper cleaning, I looked at them thru a magnifying loop, and decided to look them up in the NGC explanations. There I stumbled upon the 1964 with the variation explanation, so that set me to looking for one as several of them were 1964 quarters. Anyway, that is how I found one. I will do my best to put up a picture here. Now, what do I do with it? Is it worth grading, and adding to my collection? Keep it in the flip holder I put it in and offer it at a coin show, or what? Any suggestions? Advice is elicited, and let me know. This one is a 1959 P model.

I got it, a Bass Collection coin
Today FEDEX delivered my Bass Collection 1903 S $5 MS66. It is a stunning coin, so bright and lusterous, I feel it should be rechecked for a higher grade, but I bet that has been done at least once. I am going to put this on in the next show and do what I do best, show off. This one put a grin on my face, and along with a 1994 AGE $10 MS70, I can go to bed satisfied for the moment. My sagging Registry number was helped somewhat, but still more searching to do.

I am being offered a nice coin but too cheap.
Is there something I do not know here about a coin being in the name of the collector? Does it make the coin more valuable? This is being offered to me for $6500.00 Is the market going soft? Am I going soft and do not realize a good price? Is the BASS COLLECTION known?
    Someone help me here.

    Went to a coin show, yikes! L@@k --> 1866 S $20
I went to the F.U.N. Show in Orlando as a dealer, and sold off a bunch of my coins, and added a few. One of the coins I am looking at is an 1866 S $20 Gold No Motto Type 1 Liberty 20 D.
It's in AU 58 NGC population 7 and only two better. The last one went thru an auction as AU55 Jan/2007 at quite a high price. I would love to have the coin. Does anyone have any input as to its value?

Finally, got some new coins after a long time away from market.
I just added three new 1992 MS70 GAE $5's and a 1994 GAE $10 MS70...I will offer these at the F.U.N. Show in Orlando this coming week. I see the weakness in the price of gold and silver and believe fully in the resurgence of the physical prices. As our economy gets on it's merry way, I am hoping that gold prices don't go up too much as I am on the hunt for others to enhance my collection. The ones listed here are from a sale recently and I feel I got them pretty good prices and hope to trade them for some I have my eye on. Have FUN at the F.U.N. Convention,
A little while ago I added my first palladium coin, a Russian 1990(L)USSR PD 25R BALLET MS69 & a 2012 W EAGLE P$100 EARLY RELEASE PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO... I have always loved the platinum Eagles, and have a lot of the 1st year issues in PF70 and PF69. I was happy to see our government talking about a trillion dollar platinum (Pt) coin to pay off the debt. Is any of you thinking of buying it to help our government?
See you there NGC. ( at the show )

Only my coin dealer knows for sure.
I get the magazine Reminisce. In an old issue from 2004, (August/September) page 46, there is a querry and picture of a 1940 Nickel which has rays emenating from the Montecello dome. three of them, one straight up, and two more, one either side of center emenating in about a 45 degree angle away from center. I am including the best picture I can generate from this old magazine and unfortunately, the color is sepia which does not help much. Can anyone identify this as real. Even my coin dealer does not know for sure.

Is it real? Only my coin dealer knows for sure.
I have been acosted twice now by a dealer I don't know to buy coins he says are NGC registered as 'PROOF LIKE' ' & using words like 'Premium Quality'.
Does this mean anyting to anyone?
The coin this time is an 1879 10 Cent MS67 NGC PL <Proof like].
Any input regarding this coin and others he classifies as "Proof-Like" would be appreciated greatly.
    Thanks

Mint and Proof sets, a stack of them... Should they be graded?
I have Proof sets, Eisenhower Dollars, dated 1776-1976 with the Kennedy half, and the usual shrapnel that accompanies them, [quarter, dime, nickel & penny]. A separate Eisenhower dollar 1973, a mint set 1/4, nickel, dime and two pennies, a 1970 Kennedy half, with 1/4, nickel, dime, one penny. A 1979 set with Kennedy, and an SBA dollar. [2 of those]. And 2 Eisenhower sets from 1973. All remain in the celophane envelopes and have been stored properly since aquisition. HOWEVER, I see, with naked eye, [flaws/marks/toning] and using a huge desk magnifying glass, [sherlock would be proud to use it] gouges, scrapes and nicks reminicent of the bagged coins. (not horribly marred, but still seems to be not 70's. I mean, now, what would be the point in haveing these graded? You can buy these for [at a coin show] for $5 per set. I also have proof sets, these are in plastic, four sets dated 1975, '77. & 2 '78's... The coins are still in the hard lucite displays and in the black boxes, like new directly from the mint. BUT, I have seen these stacked up a mile high on many desks at many coin shows, and none are bringing more than $5 also. I mean hundreds of them. So... the question is, are these worth grading or keeping? 72 USA coins (modern) at what price to grade. (Can I get a volume discount? )
Any advise here would be appreciated, before I use them for pocket change...
Proof sets not in picture, you know what they look like anyway.

PS I sold all those lil proof sets for about face value plus shipping. I kept about three of four of them, just could not put them in circulation or spand them out of pocket. I think someone got a coin collection started and I did not lose anything. I don't know what to do with the others, they are no good to me, so if you know someone who wants their child to start a collection, I will sell them for face value plus shipping. They are the Eisenhower proof sets in plastic. Under $2 face value and I think I have three left.
Just write me for instructions and you can "have" them.

Well, looking for one coin to try to regain my sub 200 collection number. I am looking to do it on one base hit, and not have to go searching for numerous coins. I found an 1860 $2.50 Liberty Head, Old Reverse in MS64. The guy wants $10,500.00 for it. I looked thru the NGC Price guide, and came up with no information. Can anyone out there help me as to its value? Sure would appreciate any help.

Just when I take a break...
Just when I take a break, everyone goes out and finds coins to buy and submarine my coveted 200th ranking, now I have disappeared into the fog at 213. Geezo, I have bills to pay and 7 or 8 children to feed, a travel agent with two kids in college who needs my money. Not much left for coins. Guess I will have to get a 2nd job.
So as I peruse the want ads, will you folks stop being so loose with your money and allow me a breather so I can catch up to my old ranking?

    Now, are they improperly cleaned?
Attention all hoarders: I have just came into 6 Roman coins. I can't read Latin, and have no time to search out a 'Pope' to read them for me...But my main question is,How can you tell if these were improperly cleaned, or otherwise messed with?
#2 is, Are they real? I looked on line for how to clean a coin and their answers were frigtening. Methinks they are asking you to destroy value, while talking about preserving value. I don't need to clean the coins myself, but sure would like to be able to know if they were fouled. #3. What are the dates or circa? I will post the picture of the coins, and if you can help, I can e mail you the pix so you can see them better. And any info regarding Roman coins, [how to read them, have they been cleaned etc]? would be greatly appreaciated. Respond to this journal please if you can. or to my e mail, dragonslayir@aol.com

Want to hit a homer, go play for the Yankees
Yup, got it again, the sumpthin' for nuttin' disease. Or we could call it, the "if its too good to be true, it probably is."
I've been hit worse, but this comes awful close. I bought 14 Morgans back in May. Well, just got the results back from grading expedition to Sarasota.
7 of them were adulterated (<--sp?) or details. Seems people still like to clean their coins [when will the word get out NOT to clean them AT ALL? Leave that to the graders and pros) I did get a few MS's, even a '64.. Thank goodness, using the NGC guide, and present price of silver, if I put on my pawn shop hat, I might just break even. I suppose I will keep the 7 baddies for a rise in silver price, and begin to offer the good ones to my friends who like Morgans. I am going to be putting all mine on the block, as I am treading in a PF70 and or MS 70 direction with mostly ASE's or AGE's. Like Pt too, and even Pd but probably not enough gas here to trade up to gold or one of the P's. (Plat or Pall)
Now the crux of this journal, is buying. I was offered all of these Morgans and they were ALL in bogus slabs with medium to high grades. I knew there was dice rolling, and I figure as I may just break even, it is not the worst deal. But following up on an earlier post, [not long ago] Please be very careful whom and where you buy from. I don't know how nor why there are so many criminals out there, but it is well to be advised they will rip your pockets off for the lint if they think there is a profit in it.
I NEVER lie, cheat, or steal, unless it benifits me.
So Happy Hoarding, and please watch your buying habits.

Dear Dad, no mon, no fun your son...
Well, all my funds for adding to my collection are used up. Any funds coming in, will be needed for taxes, ROTH IRA, and SEP IRA. Does anyone know if or how we can buy coins, [registerd coins] and have them in our retirement accounts. This is probably my last year for adding funds to those accounts so it is imperative I stop playing for a few minutes and pay attention to retirement.
I am already going into the shakes, has been a month already since I have added a new coin. But wait, I just remembered, I have 16 coins in the hopper, put in May 10th, so I should be hearing of their grades soon.
Whew, that feels better. Any way, the question stands, about the coins in IRA's.... any help is appreciated

Times seem to be changing, or I am getting luckier.
I found some new babies for my collection. Will be getting back my Morgans in a few more days, 14 of them, and two Olympics too, one proof and one MS. Also, I will be adding in my new St G 1909 MS64, and a few golden oldies. These will be the first new additions to my registry since a while back. Also, I sold a few coins, and will have to delete them from my registry, already took out 20 coins from the silver anniversary collection the MS 68's. They were pretty, but I'm trying to get out all the under grades, and trying to focus on '70's for the newer modern American Eagles. Of course, anything goes for older models.
No Image for this post, as none of the new coins to be added are here yet. But on the way.
    Happy hoarding

    Coin holders beware of fakes.
To the discerning eye, a fake or 'non-standard' coin holder or slab is readily apparant. So this journal is probably focused on the new collector who has not yet been fooled by the negative elements of our society. They don't always use the top grade as the one in the picture herein. This holder looks VERY much, too much like the NGC holder. NGS is NOT a recognized guarantor of quality, although the coin therein may be real the grade is much suspect. I bought 12 Morgans and they are in grading now at NGC. Will be MOST interesting to see how they come out. By the way,... NONE Of the grades were very low or very high, so it could lead to much capital losses should one believe the grade.
I have a picture of the reverse if you want to see it let me know by reply.
