Last night was my first coin club meeting

Friends; I have been collecting Morgan Dollars for more than a year. A few months after I started collecting I checked the internet for PCGS & NGC dealers within 50 miles. I ended up with a list of 5 shops and set out to visit them. Wouldn't you know, every one of the stores were shut down. What does a hick in the sticks gotta do to meet other coin collectors? I know "JOIN COLLECTORS SOCIETY", so that is what I did in January. I have learned so much in only six months from the society pages, news, and members journals.

Last night I went to a coin club meeting in Greenville S.C. I did enjoy it even though it was an hour drive each way.The meeting started out with a documentary on the dollar bill and the reasons for its design (very interesting). After the meeting there was a coin auction, the first item was a set 1880-1885 CC in GSA holders they were starting at $2,000 but no bids, all the rest of the coins were raw included - proof sets, mint sets, gold proofs, and rolls of new pennies that went for $1.75 to $2.50 a roll.

I was impressed with the GSA selection offered, being new I did not go up to the table and check out the coins, but I did watch to see who put them up for bidding. As we left I introduced myself and told him I was a Morgan collector. We talked a while and he handed me his card,he is I guess what you would call "a dealers-dealer". I think he may save me a few bucks in the future.

HAPPY COIN COLLECTING
