Just as a test I took two of the new dollars and tried to bang them together as hard as I could to see what would happen.

It hardly made a mark on the coin. I then took a HAMMER and hammered one coin into the other. I still could not reproduce the marks on the coins in my roll. This can only mean one thing, these marks are being caused by equipment at the mint and at the bagger. Since I have seen marks like these on coins I bought in mint bags from the mint, I can only conclude there is equipment somewhere in the mints offical system that is damaging the coins. That does not mean that String and Sons are not doing additional damage.I heard on the news last night that they will be minting 300 MILLION of the George Washington dollars.I wonder if it is possible to ruin 300 million coins? My guess is that they might fix the problem before they finish the run. At least that is what I am hoping for.
