A very low grade coin with fabulous eye-appeal - 1878 quarter

I really like coins like this 1878 quarter . Fabulous eye-appeal to me. Curiously, it almost looks like a CC, though it isn't listed so.

It looks like it might be a VG to me. There appears to be part of the "LIBERTY" visible on the shield.

 

This is what can happen when the grading guides cite ONE feature as way TO START to grade a coin. In this case the grading feature was well protected on a very worn coin.

 

But yes, I will agree that piece is perfect for the split grade of G-4/Poor-1.
