1943 Lincoln Cent Missing the "4"? Anyone Heard Of This?

I just picked up an old box of coins from my neighbor who used to collect. There's a 1943 steel penny with no 4 on it. It's in a 2x2 and is dirty, like most steel cents, but shows no unusual wear and doesn't look like anyone removed the number. Anyone ever hear of one of these? I've never seen any reference to one like this.

Tom,

I know that some of the coins had filled dies in the date. However, I can't remember which number. Also, some of the coins were weakly struck during this year.
