Luster and detail so sharp you can see the metal flow or orange peel effect in the fields..

These two are nice coins!

These sure are two lustrous coins thumbsup2.gif. I’m not familiar with the term, what is the “orange peel effect?”

the texture of an orange peel...the term is used in the paint coating industry.

Winston,

When the dies are first made the steel is soft so that the design and date can easily be impressed into it, after the die is hardened, the steel contracts slightly creating a wavy look on the polished fields; this surface texture then transfers on to the coin and looks like orange peel. After a small striking period the die will wear, (or be polished if it’s producing proofs) and the orange peel will be wiped away. This can be seen only on early die state business strikes and proofs; it’s what you want to see on mint state coins. hail.gif
