Usually these are cleaned within an inch of their lives and are not found circulated.

The premium paid for these back in 1900 was high and most, if not just about all, were saved. Albeit, not always well, but usually without much loss of detail. AU50 is about the lowest I've seen (outside of damaged ones).

So, when this crusty VF showed up of course I had to grab it!
