Could use some help with silver bullion math.

Wondering how to figure the actual silver content of these medals. This is what I know about them and a few images.

50mm X 5mm, 2.4 oz. each, marked 24 KT.gold electroplate on sterling. I would guess the gold is of little value and I'm lost on what sterling actually is.

Hi Larry,

Sterling silver is .925 fine. That is, 92.5 % pure......So, silver spot price times .925 times 2.4 ozs equals MELT value of the medal. Disregarding the gold plating of course.

The gold plate is "microns" in thickness, but the mfg. is allowed to put the plating karat amount that what was used. Makes it sound like a lot of "gold" but 1 oz. of gold will electroplate about 500 of these tokens.

Still a pretty heffty chunk of silver...looks like a religous "Immaculant Inception" medal.
