Conserve a Franklin Proof

2 posts in this topic

I know you can't determine for sure if a coin can be conserved by an image alone, but what are your thoughts on this coin. There are a few spots in the fields of this proof. They are pretty easy to see. Does this look like something that you have been successful with in the past with other coins?

This is a coin we would certainly have to see in person to determine what might be done for the coin. The yellowish spots on the front look like they could have become part of the metal of the coin which would mean that we may be able to lighten them and prevent them from becoming worse, but a spot would still remain. However, they could be thick residues that have not bonded with the coin and could be removed completely.

The light spots otherwise on the coin might be able to removed, but may not. It would be impossible to speculate on those without seeing the coin.
