Week # 217 - Who knows their mintmarks?

14 posts in this topic

QUESTION:

How many regular-issue USA coin types have featured obverse mintmarks for all or some of their production? Do not include partial or one-sided design changes, and do not include commemoratives.

Good Luck!

Our first place winner will receive an autographed copy of "History of The United States Mint And Its Coinage" by David W. Lange. There will also be a runner up prize given to a radomly selected player.

Let's see should be coins issued after 1965:

Lincoln 1c

Jefferson 5c

Roosevelt 10c

Washington 25c

Kennedty 50c

Eisenhower $1

SB Anthony $1

Sacagawea $1

So that is eight regular issue coins. I'm not sure if there were any pre 1965 coins off the top of my head, so I'll stick with 8.

Hmmm...

Lincoln Cents

Jefferson Nickels

Roosevelt Dimes

Standing Liberty Quarters

Washington Quarters

50-state quarters (not sure if this is a distinct subtype of Washingtons)

Capped Bust Half Dollars (Reeded edge)

Walking Liberty Half Dollars

Kennedy Half Dollars

Eisenhower Dollars

Susan B. Anthony Dollars

Sacagawea Dollars

Classic Head Quarter Eagles

Classic Head Half Eagles

Liberty Half Eagles (No Motto)

Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles.

So that would be 16 types including state quarters, or 15 types if you exclude them.

I totally missed the Standing Liberty 25c and how could I have missed the Saint Gaudens $20 so that brings the total to 10 Regular Issue coins. Also I counted the Jefferson once but technically the 2005 series has a redesigned obverse and reverse.

I'll stick with 10 Coins.

My guess is 10. Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Standing Liberty Quarter, Kennedy Half, Walker Half, Eisenhower Dollar, Sacagawea Dollar, SBA Dollar. I'm hoping, although not expecting to be right since it is my first trivia try.
