I don't understand what you mean. 27_laughing.gif

I looked for the edited notation, but didn't see it. But darn it anyway, the quote never changed. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif27_laughing.gif

looking back on some of the images I made some of those coins look lifeless! Like the 1895 has good luster to it. Heck they all have decent luster. Maybe time for a reshoot.

Very nice Barber. thumbsup2.gif This group just arrived. All PR69 DCAM except the Kennedy is a PR64, ouch. Looks like a bad dip. Probably NCS then NGC?

Thanks Bruceswar for posting the image of my newest addition to

the Barber Half set.

Its got to be the nicest AU 58 in the whole set !

The previous owner thought the coin was a MS 64 and did pay MS money

for it not too long ago. I was offered this coin - unsolicited, I might add -

and I jumped at the chance.

Coins like this don't come around very often.

Nice coins Toyo & Clad!

The 200mm arrived today. I don't have any nice coins to take photos of at home, so this 1948 nickel saved from pocket change will have to give you a feel for the lens until more numismatically interesting subjects are available for experimentation:

How far away from that nickel did you have to get? Congrats on the new lens. We'll be waiting for some great pictures. thumbsup2.gif

The nickel shot was from about a foot and a half.

I had forgotten there were a few coins I had brought home to re-image . After a few minutes experimenting to see what the sweet spot of this lens was, here are a few more quick pics:

Here's a link to the larger unretouched photos (click "next" for the reverse)

My first day thoughts on this lens (Nikon 200mm f4 AF-D Micro)...

o The sweet spot is about f/11 for coins -- enough depth of field to capture the depth of the coin in focus yet not too small of an aperature to cause significant loss of sharpness through diffraction.

o It is significantly sharper than the 70-200 w/500D.

o It seems to be sharper than the 60mm micro.

o It has better contrast than either lens -- this additional contrast will probably be the single biggest improvement visible in the photos.

Have fun...Mike
