QUESTION

For you pattern fans, what image appearing on a USA gold dollar in 1836 was borrowed from a widely circulated foreign coin of that period? Good Luck.

 

Our first place winner will receive an autographed copy of David W. Lange's book "The Complete Guide to Mercury Dimes" second edition. A prize will be given to a randomly selected participant with the correct answer.

The cap and rays were taken from Mexico's eight-reales coin.
