Did NGC ever use a flip for "slabbing"?

NGC has graded the coin in an unusual manner. As the coin is clay they feared damaged in the encapsulation process so they provided very nice photos and a flip with the NGC info.

Yes, this is true. NGC offers a Photo Cert option for coins that cannot go into one of the slabs either due to size or planchet material. I just had this done for several coins that were too big for their slabs.

 

They grade the coin and take a picture of both sides and the insert. The grade is not guaranteed.
