Will a coin struck from a rusted die affect the ability to get the star designation or limit its grade at a certain level?

Greg,

One of the first coins that pops into my head regarding your question is the 1883 Morgan Dollar with the numerous rust dots on the face. This is a coin that, if it came with spectacular color that we're familiar with on Morgans, would easily qualify for the star designation. Likewise, on this same coin, I think the rust appearance does not act as too strong a limiter for grade as this is the condition the dies happened to be in upon commencement of striking. Ultimately, as long as the rusting appearance is not so extreme as to be a blight upon the appearance of the coin, then it should not affect its ability to attain a star or limit its ability for the highest of grades.
