1994 D Lincoln Cent Bigger Than Usual

Hello everyone,

I found this 1994 D Lincoln Cent it seems very odd, so I matched it up with a couple of coins.

Few things I noticed.

1. Same diameter as a Nickel

2. Thinner than both another penny and a nickel

3. The relief, rim and inscription are all clear, the edge seems a little odd

4. Copper plating is absent

5. The weight is 2.47g which I think is within the weight of a regular penny.

It has been suggested that it is acid washed and flattened between 2 pieces of leather, the only thing is that it is too evenly uniform and not dammaged either by a vice or mallet.

I would assume if in a vice that the rim would be somehow dented/flattened. Hit with a mallet may be a little uneven on  some points.

Thoughts?

Coins that were placed in encasements often have a crushed or deformed edge like this. I don't know whether this is what happened to this 1994-D cent, but obviously the coin has had a hard life, as indicated by corrosion and surface damage.

See, for example, the following topic:

It is called a “Texas Cent”. Is is deliberately done and is considered damage.
And you are right, it has been flattened by pounding between two pieces of leather.
It has not been acid washed. The copper plating comes off from the pounding on
the cent and as the zinc core expands and the plating doesn’t.
You can see these fairly often on this and other forums.
