1984 quarter rim question 1 1

Can you please let me know if this quarter has been altered to have a thicker rim or if it came from the mint that way.

Not an error, it is either an early stage dryer coin or someone has started to spoon it.   
In either case there is no value over face.

Double post, or not, and regardless of perceived FMV, the quarter is twice the size (thickness) of a regular quarter and, therefore, in my eyes worth twice as much, or fifty cents. And, unless there is conjecture this may be a counterfeit  . I would offer to pay double that before @powermad5000 gets his hands on it.     🤣  

Just a little humor here. It may not be worth more than face value but is an interesting oddity which you may wish to set aside.

I would more lean towards this being a spooned coin imho. It is possible it was "on a roll" so to speak in a dryer, but I think it was the start of someone spooning it and most likely gave up because it is quite a bit of work to spoon a coin.
