If the lines are incuse (deeper than the surface) they would be damage. When looking at them under some magnification, scratches on a coin will have displaced metal on the sides of the scratch at the level surface as the displaced metal is pushed aside and piled up when the scratch is made.

If a die were to have scrapes or scratches (which there are some cases involving die maintenance having a mistake by the Mint employee), those scratches in the die would result in a raised line in the coin after it is struck. Also, every coin subsequently struck from the scratched die will also have the same raised line. Typically this is how varieties are created. One of these modern varieties is the 2000 P Speared Eagle Sacagawea variety. A die gouge was left unintentionally in a reverse die which resulted in a raised line that goes through the body of the eagle on the reverse which became described as a speared eagle.

Your nickel seems to have part of the scratch cutting into the rim of the nickel so I think you have a damaged nickel.
