Tina Lynn Posted yesterday at 09:03 PM Share Posted yesterday at 09:03 PM I am very new to coin collecting. I think I have a 2021 Quarter Crossing the Delaware with a skidding error. I am not sure where to get it looked at. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Tina wo
J P M Posted yesterday at 09:10 PM Share Posted yesterday at 09:10 PM Welcome , you have what we call a dryer coin, not an error coin. The coin has been damaged from rubbing something in a circular motion. AKA Dryer Coin Sandon and powermad5000
Greenstang Posted yesterday at 09:12 PM Share Posted yesterday at 09:12 PM Welcome to the forum Sorry but that is not an error of any type. It is just damage. An error can only occur duuringthe actual striking of the coin and what you have could not have occured at that time. Keep it if you like but it has ni value above 25 cnts
Sandon
Welcome to the NGC chat board. As you are a "very new" collector, it is important that you learn the basics about U.S. coins and collecting them before getting into an advanced topic such as mint errors. It is extremely unusual to actually find a coin with a significant mint error in change or in random accumulations of coins. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of misinformation online to the contrary, as well as about other matters pertaining to coins, as discussed in this recent article by a prominent mint error: Jeff Garrett: Fake News and Misinformation in Numismatics | NGC (ngccoin.com). Please see the following forum topics for reliable print and online resources from which you can learn about U.S. coins, the second of which also includes resources about mint errors:
