Sorry but that is not an error of any type. It is just damage. An error can only occur duuringthe actual striking of the coin and what you have could not have occured at that time. Keep it if you like but it has ni value above 25 cnts

   As you are a "very new" collector, it is important that you learn the basics about U.S. coins and collecting them before getting into an advanced topic such as mint errors. It is extremely unusual to actually find a coin with a significant mint error in change or in random accumulations of coins. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of misinformation online to the contrary, as well as about other matters pertaining to coins, as discussed in this recent article by a prominent mint error: Jeff Garrett: Fake News and Misinformation in Numismatics | NGC (ngccoin.com).
