I had to post this label. Does anyone know what this label has to do with a 1942 proof nickel?

Well, that seems to be a nebulous connection - at best. Maybe the nickel was found in the same "self-promoted" so-called hoard. (The coin looks awfully frosty to be a proof...) Likely the gardener tried to self-slab during the last hurricane? :)

It has nothing to do with a 1942 proof nickel. If I needed that slab for a set, I would resubmit it to NGC to get the label changed.

You've got to be kidding me.

He is not. And I think we will have to draw a line if it ever turns into "NGC collectible label series #3".

I can see some labels having some significance like the Vegas label I have on a Morgan that was part of the Binion stash, or the special Lincoln label that was on the first W Lincoln cents, but the label on this nickel has not a damn thing to do with nickels at all.

Already is essentially.

The Binion hoard labels having some significance, meh, I guess. Having the Binion pedigree on the $10,000 notes he had displayed in the lobby of the Horseshoe is probably a little closer to the cutoff line for me.

I only have seen the million dollars on display. When were these notes put out to be viewed?

I'm talking of when they where in the horseshoe display in the casino lobby, they were on display in the lobby for many years. I think they might have changed the display a few times but they were viewable by the public.

Several, if not all, are now in PMG holders. I don't know that they were ever laid out as a whole to be viewed up close or handled but I imagine that individual notes were as they came to auction.

I remember seeing the display several times. Years ago there was talk that that many of the notes were conserved in some way.

The label looks meaningless, but perhaps someone likes this stuff.  I agree that I am a little suspect of the coin being an actual proof.  It looks like a business strike to me.

If I loved the coin and couldn't find another, I would probably just live with the holder.  I don't want to spend money (and risk damage to the coin) to re-holder anything that is not a true problem.  In this case, I would just pass it by... 1) because I don't love the coin 2) because I can find this coin anywhere, anytime and 3) because the holder is well... what it is (ugly, distracting, irrelevant, etc.).

Thank you so much for this photo! Love nostalgia like this! Judging from the photo this is long before I ever went to Vegas.

Currently on display in the lobby is a million dollars set out that you can take your picture of the money in front of you.

Come to think of it, this is probably the first true ERROR of its kind I've seen in some time.  It is a comfort to know human beings are fallible, but what if you were to bring it to the attention of TPGS officials and, to a man, they all  look at each other, smile, turn to you, and say:  "Did you buy this for the coin, or the holder?"  Hmm...   :roflmao:
