JBro88
Hello, I have a 1917 Wheatie with initials engraved..not stamped on the bottom reverse rim... it is very very small, wondering if there are any stories from the mint or what this may be? Thanks for any thoughts. Edited April 3 by JBro88
J P M
Welcome, that is something that has been done after it left the mint. Not an error
Coinbuf
Not initials, just damage to the coin while in circulation.
Greenstang
Welcome to the forum Looks like the rim has taken a couple of hits. But no matter the cause, it is damage.
powermad5000
Hello and welcome! If I am seeing a tiny B and a tiny A, that was not put there by the mint and someone did that intentionally, much like larger counterstamps found on many earlier types of coins from early to coppers to Trade Dollars to Capped Bust Halfs and just about everything in between. It also could just be paredolia and just the way the coin took a couple hits on the rim though too.
