Error coin or just damaged? 1 1

I found this coin in my car and wanted to know if it was an error coin or just a damaged one.

Just a badly damaged quarter. It is only an error if it happens during the actual striking of the coin,   
anything that happens after that such as your coin is considered damage, no matter how it happened.

If you found it in your car, it probably crawled in there to keep from getting beat up again.

Your quarter is heavily and badly damaged. Not every coin in circulation is of quality. Many mishaps whether intentional or not happen to coins after they leave the mint. Typically, it is not important to try to figure out how such damages occur as no matter what, the damage renders the coin to be worth face value.
