I agree it looks like die deterioration or machine doubling with no collector value. powermad5000 Posted August 6, 2023 Share Posted August 6, 2023 Hello! There are two varieties of a 1909 Lincoln VDB recognized by NGC, FS-1101 and FS-1102. The photo below is a portion of FS-1101. Strong doubling is seen in LIBERTY and in 109 of the date on this variety. The LIBERTY on your coin does not exhibit this trait nor does the 109 of the date. The FS-1102 variety actually shows no visual doubling but rather has extra thickness in the lettering and date. Your coin also does not fit this variety as yours exhibits minor shelf doubling (aka strike doubling, aka mechanical doubling). You do have a cent in very nice condition however and definitely a keeper. The photo below is from NGC VarietyPlus of FS-1101. Note the difference in LIBERTY between the photo and your coin.
