This looks like a date over date between the 4&0 looks like a 5 the zero extra thick maybe punched over something the 9 half way up has a tail the chin looks doubled ?

Just damage. The 0 has taken a hit flattening it and the chin is also just damage.

   While I agree with those who have previously replied based on your close-up photo that your 1940-D Lincoln cent only exhibits damage, in the future please post clear cropped photos of each side of the coin, not wide angle views in which the coin occupies only a small portion of the photo. We really can't evaluate the coin from such photos. See the following topic for additional suggestions about posting coins on these forums:

One photo is too washed out with light to see anything substantial, two photos are not cropped and are too small to see any details in question, and the one closeup with the date shows a smashed zero which is post mint damage. From what I can discern in the small uncropped photos looks like a level of environmental damage.
