Popular Post J P M
More nice roll coins. It is very hard to find 2004 Lewis and Clark Nickels without a sail full of contact marks. powermad5000, Fenntucky Mike, EagleRJO and 3 others
powermad5000
I agree J P M. In fact, for most modern nickels it is hard to find any without a sail full of nicks and dings. J P M and Lem E 1

This is an ender from a mint wrapped roll I just opened a few weeks ago that was still in the mint box and has never seen the light of day since it left the mint in 2005. Has some nice color to it. Unfortunately it has so many deep cuts on the obverse. Otherwise, it would have been a nice looking piece. CIII
Fenntucky Mike
Nice JP, I got one of these back in change a few months back and kept it for my Whitman. I didn't realize these were hard to find in good condition, I'll have to take a closer look at mine to see if the sail is in good shape. I just stuck it in the folder because the coin looked to be in good condition, and something is better than nothing, which is what was in that spot prior. Sharp edge nickels dumping into a big bin at the mint is not nice. CIII

Ya they are hard to find in good shape and they get good money for graded even though the value is not very high on the retail end.

I see plenty that even have a nice clean field but once I look at the face or the Monticello with a 10x it goes right back into circulation. Most have those deep gouges like that. It has always fascinated me on nickels being tough to get high quality specimens that the value doesn't translate into the marketplace.
