1999 state quarter error question 0

I noticed this coin and seen what i think is doubling on the obverse side on a few words im just curious if im accurate or if im seeing something else ?

   Welcome to the NGC chat board.

   The doubling that you see is definitely strike doubling, which is very common and results from the die being slightly loose in the press. Such coins generally are worth no premium. Die doubling, which can have value if prominent enough, is notable for the multiple images being on about the same level.

   It is advisable to post photos of the obverse and reverse of the entire coin, as well as the areas of interest.

Agree that it is Machine Doubling (aka strike doubling) a worthless type of doubling.

In the future, please reduce the magnification on your photos, bigger isn’t always better.

Anything you can’t see at 10X is irrelevant anyways.

Agreed, just some mechanical or strike doubling, this is very common and while sometimes very dramatic and interesting it is worthless.

You can use the attached to identify machine doubling, which does not add any value.

My suggestion, lose the microscope and it will be easier to know if you find something interesting.   All that is needed is a 7X loupe, if more magnification is needed it is not something of value, just something that will have you chasing shadows.

I completely agree to put the microscope aside and just use a 7x to 10x loupe or magnifying glass (my choice per my grandfather).

When I first got a scope a while ago I was finding all kinds of things that sent me down rabbit holes, only to find out that even if there were errors (usually not) there almost certainly wouldn't be any extra value since it wasn't visible with no magnification (preferable) or a loupe.

Now the only time the scope comes out is to verify something I am seeing with the mag glass or to evaluate die markers.
