Hinkle
So I'm looking at the left side on the obverse of coin, which I would say is true MAD. The right side I see alot showing up also called MAD, but been told it has alot to do with plating issues. Especially on Zinc. When I see one's looking like on the left side of coin, I throw back in circulation. Curious about this one. Any help would be appreciated .thanks
Sandon
The bulge on the right side of the obverse is commonly seen on cents dated 1986-89 or so. I'm not sure what caused it but think it had to do with die wear. Hinkle
RWB
Do you refer to "misaligned dies" or a heard of bovines?
NewGuy1
I think the bulge is called a ridge ring and from worn dies. I had read about it on a good error site (error ref?). They might have stuff on mad too. Sorry I can't help more
VKurtB
There are a whole bunch of these throughout the late 80’s. It took the Mint quite a few years to “perfect” (yeahhhh) Zincolns. Set them side by side. The changes year by year are noticeable. Hoghead515

Seems like the mint had poor quality control in those days just by looking at their coins. The dimes were espically horrific. Ive seen several of the cents with mis aligned dies. Seems like the most crappy coins I see are from the 80s. Looks like they didnt even try to strike good coins in those days.
KarenHolcomb
I never noticed it before, but they are kind of similar. https://www.error-ref.com/search/MISALIGNED+die/ https://www.error-ref.com/search/Ridge+ring/
