It looks like the spacing is the same on the AM not touching at the base. A closer shot like the obverse one may tell more?

  You can blow up the posted reverse photo by clicking it and then clicking the "+" emblem twice.  Here is the photo from NGC VarietyPlus, which shows the A and M essentially touching on a "Close AM", which clearly isn't the case on Thunderkat84's specimen.
