Looks like a dryer coin (they get stuck in dryers and it rolls them around that way). You will not be able to discern the date. No, it is not a decent find; it's just a brutalized penny. If you like it, of course, keep it. And before you ask, no, you should not send it in for grading. You'll save $30-60 by not doing so.

Welcome to the forum @Guthrie101!!! We really like good valid questions here and then the "asker" accepting the answers they get from the extremely experienced collectors and veterans on this forum.
