MS 70 Silver Eagles

Still seeing these MS 70 Silver Eagles selling for huge money. Of the 62 1999 Silver Eagles graded at PCGS and many more graded at NGC, how many do you think really are flawless at 5X magnification ?

Current bid at over 6000.00 on one at GC. Will withhold comment until after the auction ends.

Almost all of them were flawless when they came from the dies. After that, each coin was subject to a series of potential damaging events, including post-grading damage during encapsulation. If one had the proportion damaged at each step (from sampling), then the net true UNC-70 proportion could be calculated. (Automated system malfunction rates could possibly substitute.)

IMO the only way an MS 70 coin that large could exist would be one that was handled individually after striking, not shipped in a tube or box touching each other. Funny part is that you'll probably see this coin end up in the NGC Registry.

Thats insanity....what did the coins cost ?  I'd pay double or triple or quadruple the retail cost (itself a 125-150% premium to spot silver)....but not 30x or more retail.

Consider most are MS 69 grade and could be had for around 30 bucks or so

So they're basically regular issue coins...and there are probably LOTS of MS-70's or PF-70's...even with other descriptives like PL or DMPL or 1st Strike or whatever.
