It's quite common to find steel cents where the original zinc coating has been stripped off and the coins replated with new zinc. Your coin definitely has the look of a replated steel cent. When it is plated most of the time the letters get kind of rounded and the wheat stock stock fills in on the ends but yours are crisp and clean. But it may be a reproduction they can do some amazing stuff nowadays. VKurtB Posted September 5, 2021 Share Posted September 5, 2021 (edited) Yes, this. A true unreplated 1943 should show the edge steel. If you see smooth zinc edges, it’s been replated. Unlike modern Zincolns, in 1943, plating was BEFORE blank punching. Today, plating is AFTER blank punching.
