If you believe you have an 1983 copper cent, you had better send it out  to get certified. No one is going to buy a coin that has only about three known to exist without having it verified by an expert.

Hmm. Methinks not s'much. If your scale says this is 3.1 grams, I'll bet it reads about 0.6 grams with no coin at all on it. Jus' sayin'. We've seen this before.
