Popular Post Just Bob
Robert Wood Hinton was born Dec.28, 1854, in Winder, Georgia. In 1886 he moved to Lamar County in Mississippi to join his brother Henry and Herbert Camp in forming the Camp & Hinton Bros. Lumber Company. In 1899, Robert started the R.W. Hinton Company for the purpose of supplying general merchandise to the employees of the mill and the public. The Company also manufactured naval stores ( turpentine products) and lumber. He chose the town of Lumberton, as it was the site of the junction of the Gulf & Ship Island Railroad, and the New Orleans & Northeastern railroad. Mr Hinton died April, 17, 1932. The store issued tokens in denominations of 5, 10, 25, and 50 cents, and one dollar. All are listed as scarce to rare.
