regarding the new NGC PL and DMPL designations for business strike federal coins

6 posts in this topic

it will be a wild ride to see all the up and coming PL and DMPL designated coins that will come out in ngc holders!

this market will be improved as many can understand this better and also many of the older coinage is really beautiful and uncommon with pl and especially so dmpl mirrors on business strikes!

there is always something fun and interesting in coins and this pl and dmpl designation on all federal coinage from ngc is a really good step in the right direction

many barber coins in business strike format for example come in varying forms of prooflike!

some trade dollars also come deeply mirrored as business strikes!

i am sure there are other examples hey all you specialists out there comments please!

wow jtry look how sharp that crisp that strike is on that barber quarter of yours and then the strongly!! PL surfaces

coins like that are underapprecaited and really REALLY uncommon! most just do not understand these coins and are sleepers and extremely beautiful classic coins

i think this will make many more aware of these coins and a better appreciation of them!

Here is the coin michael is talking about: 1916-D

Thanks for the compliment michael! As I said in the other thread, this is one of my favorite coins in my collection! I bought it about 3 or 4 years ago for $431, and at the time that was about $100 over bid, which seemed kinda crazy to me, but I've never looked back! The point is, there are a lot of very nice coins out there that are available without much of a premium despite their eye appeal. Right now, toned coins are the rage, so there are lots of bargains in untoned coins like mine. Of course I won't argue about paying lower prices for coins I like better anyway! grin.gif

Thanks Monty! I am thinking of trying to cross it to NGC, it might make PL, but even if it doesn't, I think it would look better in an NGC holder with a while background. It would make the mirrored surface on the obverse really stand out.

Hi jtryka,

You know the white insert is the reason I prefer the NGC holders over PCGS. I think the coins look richer against the white background. I think a coin in a PCGS holder looks like... well a coin in a piece of plastic.
