1969 D “floating roof” Lincoln penny.

I also have a handful of these 1969 D pennies that looks like the roof of the Lincoln Memorial is floating. The designer’s initials are also very faint. I’ve read a little bit about these and it seems there’s some back and forth on what causes the floating roof and lack of designer initials. You guys on here seem to be very knowledgeable in your posts and I’d like to get some opinions on it. The penny on the left is a regular 1969 D and the penny on the right is the 1969 D “floating roof”.

A "Floating Roof " is caused by overpolishing of the die which eliminated the shallow areas of the die. It is very common on 1969D & S and somewhat on the 1970 cent. To a purist, yours might not be called a Floating Roof because of the slight nub on the roof on the right side but you can certainly keep it until a perfect one comes along. As I said, they are fairly common so you might be able to find that perfect one eventually.

I second that opinion. (thumbsu
