1860s Civil War Token - GRADE POSTED

5 posts in this topic

I have been holding out for a Fuld die 164 example for a while. This is a common token, but the strike on the "Eagle on Shield" design is very strong. These often come with no detail to the eagle's leg feathers, and with the shield "UNION" text incomplete or soft.

What do you think our hosts graded this one?

Sounds right.

Certainly no lower than 64.

just a couple of ticks below Army and Navy would limit it from what I can tell.

Great detail and nice patina.

Gorgeous coin Brandon....Probably wrong but Id go 66....with 65+ a min. The shield side has to be 66/67 the knocks in the field by army&navy are what brings the grade down. I wonder how much?

Thanks to all for the guesses.

NGC graded this (recently) as an MS64BN. I bought it already slabbed from Ernie Latter in a recent auction. Needless to say, I was very happy when I got it in hand. :)
