New Collectible Finish for 2016 ASE!

8 posts in this topic

The U.S. Mint announced today that due to the success of previous years' special finishes on the American Silver Eagle, they will be offering the 2016 coins for direct sale to collectors in the Cool Ranch finish for the first time.

A spokesperson from the sales and marketing department of the mint said that it was time for this bold move toward flavor-enhanced bullion. "We spent about a year performing extensive focus group studies to determine how best serve our collectors and provide more 'appetizing' offerings, if you will. The Cool Ranch finish seemed to be the sure winner here. This will also be the first American Eagle coin of any metal to be struck at the Denver mint. Based on our studies, we expect strong demand in Denver and Seattle for the Cool Ranch finish, so it makes sense to strike the coins where our customers are." There was no comment as to other flavor-enhanced finishes that were under development.

Pricing for the 2016 Cool Ranch American Silver Eagle will be announced at a future date.

Is this a joke or for real?

I like the ASE proofs but if I collected the series, I wouldn't buy any of the other strikes such as reverse proof, enhanced finish or whatever else is out there. I consider all of them a marketing gimmick to separate the buyer from their money.

That you had to ask (as did others) is a crystal clear indicator that the mint is producing far too many gimmicky products. Demonstrating this was one of the points of my post. One of the other points was that it's easier to mess with people with this kind of stuff when it's not April 1.
