Can a seller stop an auction once a bid has been placed and the reserve has been met before time expires in the auction?

I believe they can, though it is more of a guess than a firm answer.

Yes, they can. eBay recently changed their rules on this, so I'm not 100% sure about the time frame they currently are using, but I believe a seller can stop an auction:

 

1) At any time if no bid has been place.

2) At any time if a bid has been placed, but the reserve not met.

3) If a bid has been placed and the reserve has been met (or a no reserve auction), at any time except the last 12 hours.

Ebay sellers end auctions early anytime they please no matter what Ebay says. Ebay gets most of their money from sellers so buyers are left to fend for themselves.

Greg' is correct unless they changed it. You can end a sale up until the last 12 hours of the auction. A buyer can cancel a bid also except for the last 12 hours as well!
