I was hoping the experts on here could help me get an idea of the grade of this coin.

I can take better pictures of you think it is worth a closer look.

I think the little white dots are on the plastic on the flip.

Thanks for your time!

Easily an MS 65 coin. Might get MS 66 if the luster is right. It's smooth with few ticks. That's what they like.

Nice coin. Congrats!!

Welcome to the forum and whatever you do, DON'T clean it in any way.

Thanks! I have a few others that are very similar. I might post one that I think is the "worst" of the lot to get an opinion and also a middle one.

I appreciate the advice!

I disagree. The coin looks hazy, and there are contact marks or a scrape on the eagle's breat feathers on the reverse. I've owned and seen coins with virtually no marks, but hazy or satin luster that got an MS-64 instead of an MS-65 for that reason.

Considering he took the photos in the dark, I think the luster is probably a lot better than the photos let on.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will try to take a picture with better lighting. The coin does have a nice luster (at least from my novice viewpoint) that I don't think the pictures captured well.

Thanks for all the help and sharing your knowledge with a newbie.

If you dollar has "cartwheel luster" that moves when you swirl the coin under a light, like this piece has, you might have an MS-65. If it has milky or satiny luster, there is a good chance it won't get the 65 grade. I've been through this and know what I'm talking about. Luster makes up for other sins on a coins, sometimes more sins than it should. A lack of luster pulls the grade down.

Revised to add this ...

I thought that this virtually mark-free Oregon commemorative half dollar had a chance at MS-65. It got an MS-64 when I had it graded.

thanks again. I tried one more time with the light. I will read the FAQ again about photographing and hope I can get better at these pictures.

I do see the "cartwheel luster" as I rotate the coin.

For comparison, I also have this 1893 that is clearly satin - no cartwheel luster noticed. However, I think it is in pretty good condition.

MS 65 is a $200 bid coin. MS 66 jumps to $425. Time to join the Collectors society and submit 5 coins minimum.

Well worth the minimal cost if they all look like this 1.

I was wondering if someone would give me their thoughts on these two 1896 coins. It has a very colorful toning. It is the end coin from what appears to be uncirculated. I included photos of the second coin in the roll also.
