Why can't I add this coin to my set

3 posts in this topic

Unable to add a coin to my 1857 mint set (name: Fred's 1857 mint set).

Coin is a large cent cert # 683869-002.

I was told (years ago when I first made the set) that this coin could not be added to the set because it was a variety. It is labeled as "1857 1C LARGE DATE N-1 MS 64 RB." The Large Date / Newcomb 1 is the most common way to find these cents. It's not so much a variety as someone paid for attribution.

Already in my set is coin 452357-003, "1857 1/2C C-1 MS 64 BN." So the presence of the attribution there did not stop the 1/2c from being added.

Can you please add the 1c to my set? If you cannot, can you please clarify why it is that my 1c cannot be added to this set, and why the 1/2c can be added to the set?

Thanks!

Fred

Thank you for the question, FredFred.

Please follow the directions, below.

RE: **NGC: Coin is not showing as AVAILABLE or is NOT VALID FOR SLOT

You may manually enter in your coin, although it may not appear as 1 AVAILABLE COIN.

When you are in EDIT SET mode, go ahead and click on NGC, NCS, or PCGS as the grader. Then manually type in the cert. number in the box provided in the Cert # column.

Scroll down and SAVE your changes.

When you receive any automated messages that say, "This coin is not valid for this slot...," and, "Are you sure you want to save...?" Please go ahead, and say YES. This generates an automated process where we receive the same message and all of the details involved. Then with a few clicks, we can easily and quickly add your coin to that set for you. After we add the coin(s), you will receive a message saying the coin was added to your set(s). If you have further questions, please let us know.
