Morgan $1 1885 P - Please Help!

Hey all,

 

I recently purchased this Morgan on a whim. I am not familiar with Morgan VAM's or anything to do with them. This coin was graded by NTC, recently I found that it is the opinion of many that NTC would grade cleaned and altered coins..? Regardless, the obverse seems like i had tape on it. What do you guys think? Did I waste $45?

 

Guess the grade and Ill show it tonight.

 

Any opinion would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I do not see this coin grading higher then Ms 63 .

Mark, I agree with you. I was thinking 60-61. Anyway, The number is higher than 63...

I grade it MS64, with a shot at 63.

 

It looks far better than MS60-61 examples I have seen.

It looks like a 64 to me.

I could see it as a 64, but I don't like that obverse toning pattern and personally would not buy it. ( Not that there is anything wrong with it, looks like bank wrapper toning or something - its just not a look that I prefer.)
