New sets being added

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm with all this cold weather we are having. Even here is the sunshine state we have been experiencing some unusually cold weather this year. Most of you who follow me know that I am mostly a Lincoln cent collector. After completing my 1959-date Lincoln circulation issues set I was looking for a new direction to go in. At one time I did have a very nice short set 34-58 wheat ear. I sold the majority of those off at one time to pursue other goals. I had been wanting to start this set up again and finally took the plunge. I would like to present my first addition to my renewed 34-58 set. Here is my NGC MS66RB 1955 DDO. NGC has graded nearly 4000 1955 DDOs and out of that amount only 31 have been graded MS65. That is 14 brown, 14 red brown and 3 red. Only 2 have been graded at MS66, 1 red and this red brown example. I passed on this coin last year when TeleTrade had it up for auction. They had some of the worst possible pictures of this coin which did not do it any justice. Both the obverse and reverse have taken on some wonderful toning that exhibit undertones of gold, pink and apricot. The coin is devoid of any major detracting blemishes. This of course will be my once in a lifetime coin. I hope you all enjoy my latest addition. I also want to take a moment to congratulate all of 2013s registry award winners. We have an amazing society. Keep up the great work. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

Greetings.

Congratulations on the addition of such a key piece to your new, or renewed, project.

You absolutely went all out on this rare beauty.

Your action demonstrates why I believe coin collecting is not only a wonderful hobby but currently it is a good investment. As many of us reach retirement, or empty nest stage of life, we FINALLY have some free cash to go back & enjoy one of the hobbies we , ( or at least I had to!) give up while buying a home & raising, educating etc. children.

It seems every time the Baby Boomers do something it has a definite effect on prices. Whether it was rising rates in the 80's as we all bought our first homes, or the huge turn around Harley Davidson made from a nearly bankrupt company in 1985 to a company with a 1 year back log in orders by the early 1990's because we all wanted to buy a motorcycle.

I think the same will be occurring to coins and coin prices. You & I are two of thousands taking up where we left off. And by being early to the party, I venture to say that we will reap big rewards as collecting moves forward.

WOW, just WOW !!! I had to double it !

Just a great coin, its easy for all to see why the combination of the extreme doubling plus the rarity of the error makes this coin so desired.

Double Congrats !

Doug,

I know I'm not your best friend soooo if you just want to leave me one little penny in your will I know the one I want! OMG! I've never seen such a coin; not even in a catalog. It already shows up in the NGC coin explorer, as the best of coarse. Please tell me it's going to be on display with you in Atlanta...I need to plan oceans 14. GREAT coin for a GREAT guy. I'll have to look at it again tomorrow because with the 3 beers I've had today the letters and date look a little...off?

Congrats

Doug,

Absolutely gorgeous coin. Glad you now have it secured. For any serious cent collector this is one we dream of. Thanks for letting us all live vicariously for a while.

Emily said she was glad she was not drinking when she looked at it. Otherwise she may have thought I was playing a trick on her. Gotta love comments from non-numismatists.

Congratulations again.

Michael

Doug that is an absolutely fabulous coin! In fact I would have that one over a 09-S VDB or a 14-D of the same grade. It's hard enough to even own a 55 DDO let alone the best example there is! I can tell right now its going to be real interesting to follow you in your new direction! All the best.

Gary
