Thought I would share this article I wrote this afternoon regarding a coin I received in the mail for study. It should prove to be a good read for people out there who think they can pick a real from a fake easily...it's not always so easy.

Great article, easy to read and very informative. Any chance of a similar article on the 1922 plain?

I could do one on the 1922D "no D" cent if I were sent the pieces to photograph and study. I have no intentions of buying one myself. I consider the 1922D "no D" cent a minor error not worth the time....just a personal taste issue.

Thank you. I use a Sony Mavica, a stereo-zoom microscope, an Eco-Light reostat controlled light box, and Adobe Photoshop to do the job.

Fantastic article coppercoins! (And a very nice web site indeed). It was especially fun for me to read and look at the pictures, as I just finished the ANA's introductory course on counterfeit detection. Much of what you found was "textbook" and also made it clear why one should take great care in investigating counterfeits, as some can be incredibly deceptive.
