Mint to reduce price of the 2-Coin West Point Eagle Set (and others) due drop in silver market-

4 posts in this topic

New price expected to be $139.95 . . .

This set is highly anticipated by collectors as it contains a 2013-W Reverse Proof American Eagle Silver Coin and an 2013-W Enhanced Uncirculated American Eagle Silver Coin (Set S40), with the latter being a first ever offering that is produced using new polishing and laser frosting methods. Both of these silver coins are struck at the U.S. Mint facility at West Point.

After last weeks punishing selloff of gold and silver, markets appears to be in the process of bottoming. Demand for physical precious metals and jewelry picked up as prices dropped. Additionally, bargain hunters are buying on this dip causing a shortage in the supplies of physical metals. So hang in there, if you're in a position to buy, now is the time. Kitco has good prices.

As a result, the Mint suspended sales of a number of silver products a week ago pending the stabilization of silver prices and the repricing of those products. Reduced by $10 not much of a deal. With silver trading at $23.41 as of 4/22/13 the set is $92.18 over spot for two coins or $46.09 over spot for one coin.

Modern Coin Mart is taking names from those who want to pre-order NGC/PCGS Certified versions, their prices should be the same or less than they were for last years's S.F. set. I recommend it if you don't want to go through the costly process of submitting your Mint-purchased sets, together with NGC's category minimum 5-coin submissions in place, and no guarantee on results. The cost of MCM's 2-coin set certified NGC MS/PF70 should be about $230, maybe less.
