[hunter's gold]

A picture of the front would be helpful but it appears to be a goloid coin from1878-79. Not sure of the proper date as there are a lot of fakes out there. It if is real it should weigh 14.25 grams. That would be a good starting point.

I have to strongly agree with hunter's gold. I believe it to be a goloid dollar. But, and this is a big but, it doesn't look like the ones shown on the USpatterns website. I would be doing a lot of checking, because I share Hunter's gold concern about fakes. I would suggest checking out the site: www.uspatterns.com. This is the website of the Society of U.S. Pattern Collectors.

and I hope you didn't pay more than $2 for it as a curiosity
