OK NGC I proved the coin

Hi,

First we would not recognize your die cracked coin because there is no collector demand to designate such pieces at this time.

Second, no major article of work on errors and varieties, i.e. The Cherrypicker's Guide, includes these type of pieces.

If both of these requirements were satisfied, I do know that we would never put that nickname on an NGC holder.

Hopefully, this issue has officially been put to sleep, but somehow, even with the above statement I believe this will not be the case. 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif

1st

What constitutes collector demand when there are but just a few (22) coins in existance?

2nd

The coin in question has been in Numismatic News three times!! Is Not Numismatic News a major article coin news magazine? Why or Why not would this suffice?

If coin certification companies certify coins that have male appendages on them like the "Cook Island" coin. Then what is the big deal about certifing " Minute Man". If the coin grading companies certify the Cook Island coin or other coins like it then they are promoting this sort of stuff. What gives? The PMM doesn't even show an appendage!!

But they don't think the appendage sticking down on the Cook Island dollar is?

The coin is what it is. Its a coin, these companies slab coins, therefore they will slab that coin. Alternately, the PMM could have been named in a manner which was not offensive, say the "Incontinent Continental Quarter" or maybe the "Trickling Trubador".

Or think of it another way: The slabbing companies will pedigree coins which were part of a top registry set. However, I doubt they would allow an offensive collection name on their slabs. No one wants their company associated with a "Diarreah Brown Toned Dollar" collection.

Collector demand is a large group of collectors and/or dealers and/or error/variety specialists in this case, who come forward with substantiated documentation and a strong argument backed with a history of collectibility and sustained interest in said coin, asking for said coin to be noted and holdered as such, due to the aforementioned traits.

I won't argue with you that Numismatic News is a major coin magazine, however, we use the Cherrypicker's Guide, the major source for error and variety specialists and a guide as such, not a current events periodical.

We grade and holder the Cook Island coins that you mentioned because they are legal tender and part of the list of coins that we holder. That is much different than labeling the Cook Island coin that you are referring to as the Coin with the Male Appendage.

Your first step should be to contact Mr. Bill Fivaz or J.T. Stanton in my opinion, to go about having the coin added to the Cherrypicker's Guide.

In honor of this I have included one of these to be graded on my next submission being mailed off to NGC tomorrow. hi.gif

Wow,

That is suprising! What is the difference between it, and this coin?

Um... nothing? They didn't say they wouldn't slab it, just that they wouldn't give it any special designation. Since you neatly trimmed off the slab label in that picture, I suspect that NGC did label it as "Impaled Head" or anything other than "Die Crack" (if that).
