What causes error coins like this ? and.........

do they have decent value? A ghost like image on the obverse of both. Reverse details and rim are VERY sharply defined. Thank you for your help.

They're struck through capped dies.

 

Oh.... I thought it said "They're struck through a cat that died."

Generally they're worth anywhere from $50 on up depending on severity, condition, and denomination (and year for that matter).

 

Since you can make out what looks like a 1977 on the cent you probably have about $70 there.

 

The dime doesn't appear to have a full date visible it's probably around $60-70.

 

Be aware that errors are really worth what other people will pay for them, more so than other coins so drastic differences in value between comparable errors are not surprising.

I guess they're not worth submitting. Especially since they're not uncirculated.
