Tradedollarnut
This must be an example of what David Lange was warning about now coming out of China: ebay trade dollar Note the sharp details in low relief and the lack of some fine details (such as all cord threads on the bale). The 5 in the date is off - probably was punched in seperate from the other three digits.
EVillageProwler
The reverse has a T1 berry and a T2 berry. How very odd! Maybe this is the very rare T1-1/2 reverse? EVP
gmarguli
That's a really odd looking Trade dollar. It reminds me of a silver round rather than a coin. It's just got that look to it.
Tradedollarnut
I'd like to expand on what EVP is talking about regarding the berries [the seller's other auction, a 76-S, is fake for sure - look for yourself]. The type I reverse, with the berry under the eagle's claw, has a couple of flat oblong berries on the olive branch. The type II reverse, without the berry under the eagle's claw, has a couple of round blobby berries on the olive branch. These coins both have the wrong type of berries to go with the berry under the eagle's claw. FAKES! I've emailed the seller, let's see if he's a scam artist or will pull the auctions. Gunsmoke
The disclaimer, "I am not a coin collector - you decide." sends up a red flag for me.
PQSeated
Hmmm, the high bidder has a funny id: "Scumthumper"
Coinosaurus
Yeah, and the seller seems to be selling a few other Chinese coins. Quite interesting, this. Perhaps they all came from the same place??
Coinosaurus
Sorry to follow-up my own post. The seller has now added the description: "I am not sure if this is real or fake. Please look carefully. There will be no returns."
EVillageProwler
Can someone disallow returns on counterfeit items? EVP
dlshaw
Only coins scumthumer has bid on are these two trade dollars, Strange huh.
PQSeated
Hehe, I don't think it's strange. The seller is obviously a scum.
davefperry
If the seller thinks a no return policy allows him to sell a counterfeit coin he's mistaken. Even with the fancy wording he could be in for trouble. The new bidder has a familiar ring to his name and might be looking to bust him. The hobby protection act includes imported coins. dlshaw
I see two bidders have retracted their bids.
davefperry
I'd thought the one with no feedback was bidding just to bust him, too. One of the guys on the other board was really good at creating new ID's and bidding on bogus auctions just to retract at the last minute or win and explain to the seller why he wasn't getting paid. First he made sure the coin was fake and then emailed the seller hoping for a cancellation. Public service.
