Interesting Happening at the ANA Show Today

38 posts in this topic

Apparently someone came into the show wearing a costume as a CAC Sticker! No it was not me, and I have people to say where I was

But in any case, the people at CAC were not amused and from what I heard, the perp was arrested! I will find out more tomorrow at the show.

I would be very interested in thr basis for the arrest- the rest of the story.

Was it because of the costume or the actions of the person?

The costume was allowed to enter the Show by employess/volunteers of the organization responsible for managing entry, I assume.

There has to be more to the story. If there is not, and it is just a person that is wearing a Costume of a Sticker, then I might know one or two Rumples that would enjoy an academic contest with those that were not amused.

Respectfully,

John Curlis

I don't think trademark infringement involves the police arresting you. Isn't that something that would be handled in civil court? Gotta be more to the story.

No reason to arrest for trademark infringement. Someone had to pitch a fit suggesting trespassing I'd think. There's no evidence whether the person was for or against the green bean based upon this info so far.

Seems like a pretty good marketing tool to me actually.

Trademark infringement?

For wearing that as part of a costume, or the costume itself?

That would be pretty far-fetched, imho.....both for someone to go after them for that reason and for the cops to actually use the resources to carry it out.

Just another case of somebody taking themselves waaaaaaayyy too seriously, especially when you have to call in the fun police. Coin shows must really be serious business.

I heard a bunch of announcements, but couldn't understand most of them....now I know they were calling "Bingo." Darn...and I had a double center cross on my card, too!

Someone should dress up as a PCGS Genuine slab that has a gold CAC sticker on it. That way they could "amuse" both PCGS and CAC all at the same time.

That's also making a premature assumption.

I am waiting until we hear more of what the reason was. Could have been someone not appreciating it....could have been a notice not to wear costumes (after what happened in the movie theater in Colorado)....could have been something illegal happening and the costume was circumstance. May not even have been a costume but just something stupid or a way to hide the fact that someone may have been kicked out before and got busted for trespassing by coming back.

Too many "could have beens" to make accusations and/or assumptions as to the reason.

I hope it was BNB. I dont understand CAC not being amused. Youd think they would welcome the fandom. Though I suppose they might have thought that showgoers thought they sponsored the guy and that it was not in line with their desired image.

I was there and saw the guy walking around in the CAC costume. The costume was quite professional looking and no one that I was near thought there was anything amiss. Later, the guy left the Convention Center and walked down the block without police escort. I know this because I went to lunch about the time that he left and never saw any police near him.

It was a bit more than "interesting" for me. I was there at precisely the moment when this nut case was dancing around the aisle and he practically knocked me down (by accident, I believe). What a doofus!

That's what I thought too. Although he was an annoyance, I actually thought he was involved with CAC somehow, as the costume was indeed very well done.

"Trademark infringement" was something of a joke, I did not seriously think anyone would be arrested for that. It was just the only legal objection I could think of for someone simply dressing up as their logo. As pointed out later he probably wasn't arrested, just asked to leave for causing a disturbance or being an annoyance.

Right. This makes me think of ComicCons where people go crazy "cosplaying" as their favorite characters...it's no more copyright than fair use.

Impersonating a CAC bean. It's a Class B Misdemeanor.

I feel like I'm missing a funny joke with that comment.

Sorry, that is incorrect. It is a class B(ean) misdemeanor.
